On 25th September the Battle of Stamford Bridge takes place, in which Harald Hardrada the King of Norway is defeated and killed during his attempted invasion of England, fighting against HaroldĀ Godwinsson, the English King.
Hardrada roughly translates to ‘hard ruler’; he was well known as a strong military leader, having fought through Europe. The Saga of Harald Hardrada in the Norse sagas tells of his life and exploits.
