City Impressions: Copenhagen
Visiting Copenhagen straight after Stockholm, we found this city a complete contrast.
It was busy and vibrant, notwithstanding the cold. And while the weather continued to be changeable, we were able to wander around and explore the many sights.
Apart from the fact that Jaegersborggade Street has a seemingly impossible name to pronounce, it was a delightful street which we thought would present some interesting shopping opportunities. And it would have, except that the stores didn’t open until 11am! And we had already enjoyed a leisurely coffee to while away some time.
So we decided to wander through Assistens Cemetery, which was inaugurated in 1760, and still operates as a cemetery today. Originally it was a paupers burial ground, but in the early nineteenth century it became fashionable and so many notable people are buried there. Around that time, picnic excursions to the cemetery became popular. That tradition has continued, with the area being well maintained and popular. Gravestones share the spaces with sculptures and delightfully designed gardens.

While still talking about parks, the Rosenborg Castle Park provided another opportunity for a delightful stroll.

Finally, a trip to Copenhagen wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Nyhavn. I have now seen this colourful canal in winter and summer. Probably the only giveaway in the photos below is that in winter the boats are tucked up under their covers!

While definitely a tourist spot, Nyhavn is still pleasant to wander along. And curiously, both meals I have enjoyed there have been Italian! Go figure?!
