A couple of spectacular walks

While on our voyage north up the Norwegian coast, we would make a point of doing as much walking as possible whenever the ship stopped. Much of the walking was in the form of exploring the cities, towns and villages we came across. But, whenever there was an opportunity to do a ‘real’ walk we jumped at it.

We managed to do two.

The first was from Alesund. Alesund is a port town, located at the mouth of the Geirangerfjord.  In 1905 the town was almost completely destroyed by fire. However, it was decided that the town should be rebuilt, which has resulted in it being known for its art nouveau architecture.

Our walk was to the top of Sukkertoppen, where we were rewarded with some jaw-dropping views over Alesund and to the adjacent islands.

The second walk was from Bodo, from where we were driven about 15 minutes to the other side of the  town. Bodo is just north of the Arctic Circle, which we had crossed in the ship the night before.

The walk along the shoreline was cold and invigorating.

The shoreline was rugged and magnificent.

So, to explain the feature photo, when you hike in Norway, you never know what little creature you might find on the way?!
